Is it all in your head?

You fall asleep at night thinking of your dream, that special project you are working on. You wake up in the morning excited and ready to go for it. But as you go along you feel like you're spinning your wheels. There's no traction, you're not getting anywhere.

Could it be because "it's all in your head"? Are you keeping all of your ideas and inspirations to yourself or are you letting them out into the world? Are you actually creating it? Are you letting other people know about it?

Sometimes we can get so caught up in the vision in our mind that we just keep it there, thinking about it and envisioning it. Either we don't tell anyone about it or when we talk about it we say so little and are so oblique that others can't understand what we are talking about, all they know is that we are energized and excited.

If we want to see our thoughts and ideas take shape we have to release them into the world. Keeping them locked up in our minds is akin to keeping them locked in a cage. By sharing our ideas with others and taking action we can bring our ideas to life!

Action: Talk and do. That's it, just tell some people about your ideas (not necessarily those closest to you, but rather those who can support you - a coach, mentor, or peer group focused on the same ideas). When they can understand what you are saying and the steps you're taking to get started then go take the first steps.

Are you aware of the choices?

Ann Quasman posted this quote on her Facebook yesterday,

"‎Awareness is a function of choices."
~ Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith

And all we have to say is, "Absolutely! It's All about choices." From your schedule to your responsibilities to your happiness, it's all about choices. Yes, we know that part of you wants to say there are certain things you don't have any choice about; there are some things you just have to do. Well, consider this:

We've all heard stories about people at opposite ends of the spectrum who feel differently about their circumstances; the dying person who is bitter and angry vs. the dying person who sets out to leave a legacy or make a difference, or the poor person who rails against the establishment because they're being held back vs. the poor person who reaches out to help others.

Take Randy Pausch, a man who knew that he was dying and would leave behind a wife and young children. Rather than just waiting or being angry, he chose to leave a legacy for them and for us.

Or look at Peace Pilgrim, one woman who believed the world should be at peace. She didn't take no for an answer or ignore it because people said one woman can't make a difference. She chose to make a difference and devoted herself to peace, trusting in the kindness of her fellow man to give her food and shelter.

These are people who've CHOSEN to keep a positive attitude, reach out, and enjoy their lives. They are all examples of what can happen when we embrace our ability to choose and then choose to give the best of ourselves.

Acknowledging the power we have through choice can be scary, but we invite you to take a look at the other side and see the possibilities. After all, if you can take responsibility for who, what and where you are now then you can step forward, into the power of choice, and get where you want to go.

Action: Is there something you are frustrated with? Is there an area of your life that you feel is holding you down? Take another look at it, find a way you can take a positive action, then do it!

The suckers will get ya

You know them. They are like leaches that hold on to their host and never let go. They are the individuals who suck every ounce of energy from the people and everything around them. When they enter a room the vortex opens up and one by one everything in their path is robbed of it’s life force, and next thing you know you aren’t paying attention to where YOU are going.

You see energy suckers ALWAYS have a trial & drama, and they are looking for people who will put their lives on hold to help them “fix” the latest situation in which they are the “real victim”. The problem with the “suckers” is that they aren’t really looking for help, they are looking for someone else to take responsibility for their problems and their lives. They want someone else to solve their problems, over and over again. So the truth is, even if you care about them and want to help them, you can never help them enough to satisfy them.

It is important to understand that getting caught in their vortex will only result in adding stress to your life, and it won’t leave you feeling the warm fuzzies that living a full and happy life is all about. Remember that suckers are toxic, and will lead you away from all that you want in your life.

Action: The next time a sucker tries to latch on, take a step back and recognize what is really happening. Ask yourself if this is where you really want your energy to go, and set boundaries that support YOU and your life.

Stop reading - stop listening!

When we reinvent our lives it means we have many new things to learn. Whether we must learn to handle our money differently, run a business, or interact with others on a whole new level, we are acquiring new skills.

But on our quest to change things we often get caught up in the learning process. We spend hours, days, or weeks reading and watching. We lay out lists of things we need to do and ways we need to act. But this is not true education. This is the filling of a pail, a piling up of knowledge that is not being absorbed or used.

To truly learn we must absorb and use the information we have accumulated. We must go out and do. We must apply principles and ideas to life and see what happens, making discoveries and tweaking things along the way.

It is action that will truly teach us. It is action that will move us forward. It is action that will get us where we want to be.

Action: This week focus on doing. Set aside the books and lectures. Go out and DO!

Have you had enough?

As we set ourselves on a path toward our dreams sometimes we get caught up in one aspect of the dream. We fixate on one thing and measure all of our efforts and our success by that one item.

Then, when we get the thing we've been longing for, we realize we still aren't happy so we assume that we must not have "enough" of it.

We must not have enough free time.
We must not have enough followers.
We must not have enough income.
We must not have enough because if we did we would be happy.

But what if it's not about more? What if it's about perspective? What if it's about appreciating what we have and giving ourselves a chance to really enjoy it? What if it's about getting off the treadmill of making more and deciding we have "enough"?

Action: Whatever it is that you are pursuing, be grateful for all the blessings in your life. Then set aside some time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Spend time with those you love most. Contact clients just to say thanks and tell them how much you appreciate being able to serve them. Go to a ball game. Picnic in the park. Write a poem.

Whatever it is that you are chasing because you don't think you have "enough", spend a little time enjoying what you do have.
