Up until a few weeks ago I always thought that careful planning, being prepared and having my world "under control" was the way to keep things from falling apart. But what I realized is that "control" is just a coping strategy. The reality is that things happen, life happens; and only when it does can you know what you need to do to stay above water.
Each and every one of us has ways that we handle the little speed bumps in our lives. But no matter what methods you put into play, when things spin out of control it is important to remember that in order to make them effective, they must also take into consideration you and what you need.
Think of it like an airplane...if something happens, in order to "cope" you have to put on your own oxygen mask first or you won't be able to help anyone else. Remember, if you have nothing left, how can you effectively support or help anyone else.
The best way to cope with any situation is to have a strategy that not only addresses the current event, but supports you as well!
Action: Take some time to look at your internal "gas guage"...are you running on empty? Maybe you just need to "top off"...no matter where you are it is important to find and do activities that fill you up emotionally, physically and spiritually. Remember that no one can keep doing what they do if they are moving along on only fumes!
