Today's ReclaimU Tidbit is brought to you from The Direction Diva blog Navigate Your Way.
With so many of us on the networking sites like facebook, twitter as well as the World Wide Web we felt that it was perfect for you as well! Enjoy!
Direction Moment: Our reputation is built upon many actions, but can be questioned by one.
Who we are and what we stand for come from within us, and the world discovers who that is by our actions. It's interesting tho that one mistake, one mis-spoken word can cause others to question our overall character. And because of this, in an "instant" and global age it is critical to be aware of what you put out there.
The other day a friend of mine posted a comment in response to something shared on facebook and whammo all of a sudden everyone was questioning his morals, his thoughts and his character. This is a person who many times has done things for others (often without recognition), and really has a great heart, but one smarty pants comment sent the masses into a spin.
Our actions and efforts can de-rail us and set us back if we fail to choose our words and actions carefully. I can hear you saying, "but they should know me better" and "sometimes I don't think about things like that". And this is why I wanted to talk about this today. You have to.
Our character and reputation are what we put out there. It is what connects us to others and helps us move forward in our lives. At a time where a comment is instantly seen by 100's if not thousands of people, it is important to be sure that you filter what you put out into cyber space, and be sure that it is in alignment with who you are and how you want the world to see you.
"Comments" and txts are not like conversations where you have the opportunity to "explain" yourself. They are seen as insites into your soul and they give a picture of who you are to others.
If what you share isn't carefully thought out, if you offend others and if you fail to be consistant with your actions, your reputation will be affected faster than you can get back from re-filling your coffee cup. So before you "hit the button" make sure that your voice is reflective of an action that builds your reputation not tears it down.
Action: Take an honest look at your "voice" as it appears to the world around you. How do you respond to posts by other people. Are you projecting the image you want others to have of you? Ask yourself if it us in alignment with your message and who you are.
